Best PC Games to Play

We have formed a handy list of the best PC games to play. There is something for everyone here, including shooters, RPGs, and action adventures. We update our list of the top PC games whenever a new title that we believe is essential appears. Don't get me wrong; many excellent games come out every month. For this reason, we also update this list to reflect all the excellent games that need your attention.

1. DOOM Eternal

The first-person shooter game Doom Eternal was created by id Software and released by Bethesda Softworks. Versions for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and Series S were released on June 29, 2021, and Doom (2016): The Sequel was released on March 20, 2020, for Windows, PlayStation 4, Stadia, and Xbox One.

The tale follows the Doomslayer once more as he attempts to stop Hell from consuming Earth and thwart the alien Maykr's plans to wipe out humanity. It takes place sometime after the game's events in 2016.

From a first-person perspective, players once more assume the role of the Doom Slayer as they fight the demon armies of Hell. The emphasis on "push-forward" combat from the game's predecessor is maintained, urging the player to confront opponents forcefully to gain health, ammunition, and armour.

The Combat Shotgun, Super Shotgun, Heavy Cannon, Rocket Launcher, Plasma Rifle, Chaingun, BFG 9000, Ballista, and Unmaykr are just a few of the different weapons that the player can use. You can also use melee weapons like a chainsaw, the energy sword "Crucible Blade," the Sentinel Argent Hammer, and a retractable arm-blade known as the "Doomblade."

2. Genshin Impact

Action role-playing game Genshin Impact was created and released by miHoYo. In 2020, it was released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, iOS, and Android. In 2021, it was released for PlayStation 5, and a Nintendo Switch release is planned. The game has an open world, an anime-inspired aesthetic, and an action-based battle system that employs elemental magic and character-switching.

It's free to play and is supported by in-game purchases that allow users to unlock new characters and weaponry. The base game is constantly improved through patches under the games as a service model.

The player in the open-world action role-playing game Genshin Impact can control a party of four interchangeable characters. Switching between characters is quick during a fight and allows the player to use various skills and attacks. Characters can have their strengths improved in a variety of ways, including by levelling up and by upgrading their items and weapons.

The player can take on several challenges for prizes in addition to exploration. Bosses and challenges that reward precious resources, such as Stormterror and the Electro Hypostasis, are dispersed throughout Teyvat, but taking them requires resin. This resource depletes over time and slowly regenerates.

3. Outer Wilds

Outer Wilds

Action-adventure game Outer Wilds was created by Mobius Digital and released by Annapurna Interactive in 2019. Before its release for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S in 2022, it was first made available for Windows, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. Additionally, being developed is a Nintendo Switch version. The player character in the game travels across a solar system while trapped in a time loop that lasts 22 minutes and concludes with the sun going supernova.

As the player advances through Outer Wilds, they discover information about the solar system and the causes of the time loop. Outer Wilds won multiple games of the Year accolades, notably at the 16th British Academy Games Awards, and garnered favourable reviews. In 2021, Echoes of the Eye, an expansion for the game, was released.

In the video game Outer Wilds, an unnamed player character investigates a solar system that is stuck in time and goes back 22 minutes to the moment just before its star goes supernova. The player is thus urged to discover why by looking into and learning about the Nomai, an extinct race that once colonized the solar system hundreds of thousands of years ago. The player establishes a connection with an ancient Nomai statue early in the game, ensuring they retain the knowledge gained during each time loop when it restarts. For instance, the player must obtain the launch codes from coworkers at the neighborhood observatory to use the ship.

4. Slay the Spire

Slay the Spire

A roguelike deck-building computer game called Slay the Spire was created by the American studio MegaCrit and released through Humble Bundle. Early access versions of the game were first made available for Microsoft Windows, macOS, and Linux in late 2017, and a full release followed in January 2019.

In May 2019, it was made available for the PlayStation 4, in June for the Nintendo Switch, and in August for the Xbox One. A version for iOS was made available in June 2020, while a version for Android was made available in February 2021.

In Slay the Spire, the player takes control of one of four characters and seeks to climb a procedurally generated spire with various floors while fending off foes and bosses.

The development in Slay the Spire combines elements of roguelikes with card game action. The player chooses one of four predetermined characters at the beginning of a playthrough, which establishes the character's starting health, gold, starting relic that grants the character a unique ability, and an initial deck of cards with a basic attack and defence cards as well as what potential colour-coded cards specifically designed for that character they may see throughout the run.

5. Assassin's Creed Valhalla

Assassin's Creed Valhalla

A 2020 action role-playing video game called Assassin's Creed Valhalla was created by Ubisoft Montreal and released by Ubisoft. It is the series' twelfth significant entry and the follow-up to 2018's Assassin's Creed Odyssey. The game tells a fictional tale set mainly around 872–878 AD, during the Viking incursions into the British Isles.

The game's protagonist is a Viking raider named Eivor Varinsdottir who becomes embroiled in a long-running conflict between the Assassin Brotherhood, which defends freedom and peace, and the Templar Order, which seeks to establish a new Viking clan in England while pursuing a policy of peace through control.

An open-world action-adventure game called Assassin's Creed Valhalla is organized around several main story arcs and many optional side objectives dubbed "World Events." The player takes on the role of Viking raider Eivor Varinsdottir as they lead their fellow Vikings against the Anglo-Saxon kingdoms. At key moments in the story, the game can alternate between playing Eivor as a male or female character.

People often enjoy the story games due to the unique experience these games offer. Check out the best story games for PC to explore the best stories and be the hero.

6. Assassin's Creed Odyssey

Assassin's Creed Odyssey

A 2018 action role-playing video game called Assassin's Creed Odyssey was created by Ubisoft Quebec and released by Ubisoft. It is the follow-up to 2017's Assassin's Creed Origins and the eleventh significant entry in the Assassin's Creed franchise.

The game, like its predecessor, has a sizable open world and incorporates several role-playing game aspects, placing a greater focus on fighting and exploration than on stealth. Odyssey has significant naval combat, similar to earlier games in the series. The Peloponnesian War, which took place between Athens and Sparta from 431 to 422 BC, is mythologically portrayed in the game's scenario.

The action role-playing video game Assassin's Creed Odyssey is played in third person. The player can start the game as either Kassandra or Alexios, two Greek mercenaries descended from Leonidas I of Sparta.

Players can freely roam a sizable open world set in Greece on foot or horseback after completing the story campaign. A variety of non-playable characters (NPCs) that the player will run into while exploring the world will give them side missions to complete. They also find exciting places, destroy camps and forts, investigate tombs and shipwrecks, and find hidden treasure.

7. Stardew Valley

Eric "ConcernedApe" Barone created the simulation role-playing video game Stardew Valley. Players assume the role of a character who inherits their late grandfather's run-down farm in Stardew Valley. Before being released on other platforms, the game was first launched for Windows in February 2016.

Stardew Valley is an open-ended game that lets players engage in tasks like farming, keeping animals, fishing, cooking, mining, foraging, and interacting with the locals, including getting married and starting a family. Four people can play together online using this feature.

The Harvest Moon video game series was the primary inspiration for the farming simulation game Stardew Valley. At the beginning of the game, players create a character who is given a piece of land and a modest house that belonged to their grandfather in the sleepy town of Pelican Town.

Players can choose from various farms, each with its theme, advantages, and disadvantages. Players must work to clear the farmland of boulders, trees, stumps, and weeds in order to restart the farm and tend to crops and livestock to generate income and further expand the farm's buildings and facilities.

8. Undertale

American independent Toby Fox developed a 2015 2D role-playing video game called Undertale. A large, remote region of the Earth's surface known as The Underground is divided by a magical barrier. Control of a young child who has gotten into it is given to the player. While returning to the surface, the player encounters a variety of monsters, some of which may challenge them to a fight.

The battle system entails the player avoiding the opponent's mini-bullet hell attacks. They can choose to spare creatures rather than murder them by pacifying or subduing them. As a result of these decisions, the game's dialogue, characters, and plot are altered.

The role-playing game Undertale employs a top-down viewpoint. The player controls a young child in the game and completes tasks to advance the story. Players must solve numerous puzzles as they travel through a world below ground filled with towns and caves.

The choice of whether to kill, run away from, or make friends with the underground monsters is up to the player. Numerous of these creatures challenge the player to battle. The player's morality serves as the game's guiding principle, and their decisions significantly impact the plot and overall development of the game.

9. Halo Infinite

Halo Infinite

A 2021 first-person shooter game called Halo Infinite was created by 343 Industries and released by Xbox Game Studios. It follows Halo 5: Guardians as the series' sixth mainline instalment (2015). The Forerunner ringworld Zeta Halo, commonly known as Installation 07, is the setting for the campaign, which centres on the human supersoldier Master Chief and his conflict with the Banished. The game's multiplayer component is free to play, in contrast to earlier games in the series.

This game is a first-person shooter similar to previous Halo games, Halo Infinite. Players frequently use the Warthog and other vehicles from the Halo franchise. Master Chief's new skills in the game include the Grapple Shot, which draws enemies toward him or allows him to retrieve objects.

Parts of the segmented-off and initially impassable ring-world Zeta Halo setting can be freely explored by players thanks to the campaign mode's semi-open world structure. Forward Operating Bases (FOBs), dispersed throughout the environment, can be taken over after being cleared of enemies. Fast-travel points are bases that have been captured.

10. Final Fantasy XIV

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn

Square Enix created and released Final Fantasy XIV, a massively multiplayer online role-playing game, in 2010 for Microsoft Windows. The second MMORPG in the series after Final Fantasy XI was the original version of the fourteenth game in the main Final Fantasy series.

Players navigated a personalized avatar across the fantasy world of Eorzea, where they encountered both the menace of the primals—the deities of the land's beastmen tribes—and an invasion by the hostile Garlean Empire. They eventually became involved in a Garlean Legatus scheme to exterminate the primals by crashing one of the planet's moons onto Eorzea.

Each race had two tribes, and all but two of them enabled players to choose whether their characters were male or female. Birthmarks and scars could be inserted, and the avatar's skin tone, facial characteristics, eye colour, and hair colour could all be altered. Their stats and elemental qualities were influenced by their chosen tribe and patron deity. Players may choose between two primary quests: plot quests, unlocked as characters gained experience points (EXP) and levelled up while also gaining new abilities, and levequests (levels), optional side quests obtained through the Adventurers' Guilds.

11. League of Legends

2009 saw the creation and launch of the online multiplayer battle arena game League of Legends (LoL), sometimes called League by Riot Games. Defence of the Ancients, a Warcraft III custom map, inspired the Riot developers to make a stand-alone game in a related genre. Since its inception in October 2009, League has been a free-to-play game that earns money by selling customizable character skins. The game runs on Mac and Windows platforms.

In League of Legends, the player assumes isometric control of a character with several special abilities known as the "champion." As of September 22, 2022, 161 champions are qualified to compete. During a match, champions level up by earning experience points (XP) from eliminating opponents.

Players acquire Gold both actively and passively by eliminating the opposing side's minions, champions, and defensive structures can be used to buy items that increase a champion's power. Only when a player's champion is in their team's base can they access the store menu in Summoner's Rift, the main game mode.

12. Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn

Square Enix created and released the multiplayer online role-playing game Final Fantasy XIV. Naoki Yoshida directed and produced the game, which was replaced by a successful 2013 version in August 2013 for Windows and PlayStation 3. Later, support for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and macOS also became available.

Around 5 years after the events of the original 2010 release, Final Fantasy XIV is set in the fictitious nation of Eorzea. At the end of the initial game, the lunar prison where the primordial dragon Bahamut was imprisoned is breached, causing the Seventh Umbral Calamity. This cataclysmic event obliterates most of Eorzea. The player character escapes the destruction by time travelling five years into the future with the help of the gods.

A persistent universe allows players in the massively multiplayer online role-playing game Final Fantasy XIV to interact with one another and their surroundings. For use in the game, players create and personalize their characters, giving them names, races, genders, facial traits, and starting classes.

Unlike the initial release, players are only allowed to start as a Disciple of War or Magic; Disciples of the Hand and Land are not initially available. Additionally, choosing a gaming server is a need for creating characters. Players are advised to select a server in their region even though servers are not explicitly categorized by language. Data centres have been set up in the supported regions to reduce communication latency between the server and the client computer.

13. Xcom 2

Xcom 2

The 2016 turn-based strategy video game XCOM 2 was created by Firaxis Games and released by 2K Games. It is the follow-up to the XCOM: Enemy Unknown reboot from 2012, and it takes place 20 years after Enemy Unknown's events.

After losing the battle to stop an extraterrestrial invasion, the military group XCOM is now fighting against the conquest of Earth, the installed totalitarian government, and the military dictatorship. The gameplay is split between turn-based combat, where players lead a group of soldiers to battle foes, and strategy components, where players oversee and direct the activities of the Avenger. This alien ship serves as a mobile base for XCOM.

In XCOM 2, the player-character serves as the leader of the military unit XCOM, which has been scaled down to a force fighting the planet's ongoing alien colonization. The game played top-down employs turn-based tactics in which players give orders to a group of human soldiers to kill aliens on a battlefield and, depending on assignments, perform side quests. Many missions have time limits and need completion within a certain number of turns.

14. Control

Control

Action-adventure game Control was created by Remedy Entertainment and launched by 505 Games. The video game Control is played in the third person. The Oldest House, a featureless Brutalist skyscraper in New York City, is home to the fictional Federal Bureau of Control (FBC). The FBC gathers and analyses objects of power from altered world events (AWEs) while also doing research on these AWEs.

This setting serves as the setting for the entire book of control. The Oldest House is an Object of Power in and of itself; the interior is a vast, ever-changing supernatural realm that defies the laws of space and time.

At the beginning of the game, a force known as the Hiss had taken over a large portion of the Oldest House, reconfigured its architecture to serve its purposes, and enlisted many FBC employees to fight for it. The Hiss is attempting to enter this reality through a dimensional barrier. The player controls Jesse Faden, who, after visiting the Oldest House to learn more about her brother in the wake of an earlier AWE, joins the fight against the Hiss.

15. Hollow Knight

In 2017, independent studio Team Cherry created and released the Metroidvania video game, Hollow Knight. The player of the game controls the Knight, an insectoid warrior who traverses the shattered nation of Hallownest while suffering from a supernatural disease.

The game starts in a variety of underground settings and includes both friendly and antagonistic insectoid characters as well as a large number of monsters. As they explore each place, players can discover new skills, narrative, and flavour text dispersed across the realm.

A 2D side-scrolling Metroidvania game called Hollow Knight is set in the made-up underground realm of Hallownest. While exploring the underground environment, the player controls a mute, nameless knight who resembles an insect.

The Knight uses a Nail, a type of sword used for combat and interacting with the environment. The player has the option of learning spells, which enable long-range attacks. Enemies defeated drop money called Geo.

16. Hitman 3

Hitman 3

In 2021, IO Interactive developed and dispersed the stealth video game Hitman 3. It is the eighth main Hitman installment, the third game in the World of Assassination trilogy, and the sequel to Hitman 2 from 2018.

The single-player narrative centres on assassin Agent 47 and his allies as they hunt down Providence's top brass, a shadowy organisation that dominates world politics and was partially responsible for the creation and training of 47. Providence also controls the game's plot. Providence was also partly responsible for 47's creation. The plot arc introduced in Hitman is wrapped up in this storyline.

Players once again take control of assassin Agent 47 in Hitman 3, which is a stealth game played from a third-person perspective like its predecessors. The tale of the previous two games is continued in the game by 47, who goes to various locations and executes hired assassinations.

The base game has added six new locations: Dubai, Dartmoor, Berlin, Chongqing, Mendoza, and the Romanian Carpathian Mountains. Maps, stages, and player progress can be imported into Hitman 3 by owners of Hitman or Hitman 2. Persistent shortcuts are a new gameplay element for the Hitman 3 series and are present in the new locations. Several initially locked doors in each stage can only be opened from one side.

17. Valorant

Valorant

First-person shooter Valorant is a free-to-play title for Microsoft Windows that was created and published by Riot Games. Under the alias Project A, the game was first advertised in October 2019. On April 7, 2020, a limited beta with password restrictions began. The game was officially launched on June 2, 2020.

The game's development started in 2014. Valorant draws influence from the tactical shooter series Counter-Strike and incorporates parts of its gameplay, such as the buy menu, spray patterns, and mobility inaccuracy.

First-person shooter Valorant, team-based, is set in the not-too-distant future. Players pick on the role of one of several Agents, which are based on people from different countries and cultures. In the main game mode, players are divided into two teams, with five players on each squad, attacking or defending. Each of the unique skills that agents possess requires charges, and each agent also has an extraordinary ultimate power that demands charging through kills, deaths, orbs, or missions. With a "classic" pistol and one or more charges for their "signature abilities," each player starts a round.

18. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

In 2012, Valve and Hidden Path Entertainment released Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, a multiplayer tactical first-person shooter. This is the fourth instalment in the Counter-Strike series. In August 2012, the over two-year-long game Global Offensive was released for OS X, PlayStation 3, Windows, and Xbox 360. Later, in 2014, it was made available for Linux.

Valve regularly updates the game with minor balance fixes and larger feature releases. The game pits two teams—the terrorists and the counter-terrorists—against one another in various objective-based game modes. The two most common game types involve counter-terrorists trying to free hostages that the terrorists have kidnapped or counter-terrorists trying to stop terrorists from detonating a bomb.

Global Offensive is an objective-based, cooperative first-person shooter, just like earlier games in the Counter-Strike series. Terrorists and the Counter-Terrorists are two competing teams that engage in an ongoing competition to accomplish goals, including securing a spot to plant or defuse a device and rescuing or capturing hostages. Players are awarded in-game currency after each brief round based on their individual and team performance, which they can use to purchase additional weapons or utility in subsequent rounds.

19. Microsoft Flight Simulator

Microsoft Flight Simulator

The amateur flight simulator software Microsoft Flight Simulator is available for Microsoft Windows and, in older versions, MS-DOS and Classic Mac OS. It was a pioneering Microsoft application that stood out significantly from the company's other primarily business-focused software. Microsoft Flight Simulator, which debuted three years before Windows, is the company's longest-running software product line as of November 2022. One of the most enduring PC video game series is Microsoft Flight Simulator.

The third most current major release of Microsoft Flight Simulator, and the final one created by Aces Game Studio, is Microsoft Flight Simulator X. It has a new graphics engine and is compatible with the DirectX 10 preview and Windows Vista. On October 17, 2006, it was made available in North America.

The game comes in two variations and is available on two DVDs. The "Deluxe" edition includes a Software Development Kit (SDK) for development, the new Garmin G1000 integrated flight instrument system in three cockpits, extra aircraft, and missions, as well as a multiplayer mode with Tower Control functionality. The main upgrades are visual.

20. Apex Legends

Apex Legends

A free-to-play battle royale-hero shooter called Apex Legends was created by Respawn Entertainment and released by Electronic Arts. The online multiplayer battle royale game Apex Legends uses three-player squads to play as pre-made "Legends" with unique skills akin to hero shooters.

Since the game's release, alternative modes have been added to allow for solo and two-player teams. Microtransactions and loot boxes, which let the user use real money and in-game cash to buy cosmetic things like clothes for the Legends and new colours for weapons, are used to monetize the game, which is free to play.

Twenty-three-player teams compete in each match on average. Players can form a squad with friends or are paired up randomly with other players. Each squad member chooses one of the 21 playable characters (as of season 13) before the game, except that no character may be chosen by the same squad more than once. Each squad member has a distinctive appearance, personality, and set of skills that give the team access to various playstyles. Then, every team is loaded onto a plane that flies over the playing field.

21. Destiny 2

The first-person shooter video game Destiny 2 is a free-to-play online-only multiplayer title created by Bungie. Destiny 2 is a first-person shooting game that mixes MMO and role-playing (RPG) features, much like its predecessor. On-the-fly matchmaking was a feature of the original Destiny that restricted player communication to those with whom the game had "matched" them.

The messaging system for each console was required for players to interact with one another in the game's virtual world. In Destiny 2, an improved matchmaking system called "Guided Games" enables users to look for clans that might require more people for raids. Similar to the original, player versus environment (PvE) and player versus player (PvP) game modes are used to split activities in Destiny 2.

Players take on the role of Guardians, defenders of Earth's last safe city to defend humanity from various alien races and fight the looming threat of the Darkness. The game has expansion packs that advance the plot and add new material, similar to the original Destiny.

22. Dota 2

Dota 2

The multiplayer online battle game Dota 2 was released by Valve in 2013. The game is a second version to Defense of the Ancients (DotA), a community-made mod for Blizzard Entertainment's Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos. Dota 2 is a cooperative video game in which two five-player teams compete against one another to control and defend distinct strongholds on the map.

Each of the ten players controls a strong character known as a "hero," with different skills and playing preferences. Players gather experience points and gear for their heroes during a game to defeat the opposing team's heroes in player-versus-player combat.

Similar to Defense of the Ancients, the game is played using typical real-time strategy controls and is displayed in three dimensions from an isometric perspective on a single map. Each of the 123 playable characters in the game, referred to as "heroes," has its unique design, advantages, and disadvantages. The two main categories of heroes are the core and support.

23. Forza Horizon 5

A 2021 racing video game called Forza Horizon 5 was created by Playground Games and released by Xbox Game Studios. It is the twelfth main instalment in the Forza series and the fifth Forza Horizon game. The setting for the game is a fictitious version of Mexico.

The open-world setting of the racing video game Forza Horizon 5 is based on a fictitious version of Mexico. The game's map is the biggest in the Forza Horizon series, 50% bigger than Forza Horizon 4's. It also has the series' highest point.

According to creative director Mike Brown, the level is among the most varied ones the team has created for Forza Horizon. The map shows an active caldera volcano, beaches and rainforests, ancient Mayan temples, and towns and cities like Guanajuato. Although they can participate in multiplayer races and complete the campaign mode, players can freely explore the open world. The player character and the game's featured cars can be heavily customized.

24. Civilization VI - Build A City

Civilization VI

The turn-based 4X strategy game Sid Meier's Civilization VI was created by Firaxis Games, released by 2K Games, and sold by Take-Two Interactive. Aspyr Media published the Mobile port. In October 2016, the most recent Civilization game was published for macOS and Microsoft Windows.

In the turn-based strategy video game Civilization VI, players compete against AI opponents controlled by computers to expand their civilization from a single tribe to dominance over the entire world over numerous eras of development. To do this, one must fulfil one of the numerous victory criteria centred on the four 4X gaming pillars of "explore, eXpand, eXploit, and eXterminate".

Players manage a civilization of their choosing between the prehistoric era and the near future and advance its technology, culture, and governmental system. In addition to exploring the randomly generated world and coming across other civilizations and barbarians, they discover cities and develop them by building mines, farms, and other improvements. Players can wage war by employing military force, trade, and managing diplomatic relations with other civilizations.

25. Fortnite

Fortnite

Epic Games produced and released the online video game Fortnite in 2017. The following three game modes are offered, and they all use the same basic gaming and game engine: In the free to play battle royale game Fortnite Battle Royale, up to 100 people strive to be the last person standing.

In Fortnite: Save the World, a cooperative tower defence shooter and survival game, up to four gamers defend places using traps and fortifications they can build. In Fortnite Creative, players are given complete creative authority to design worlds and fight venues.

Players can gather essential resources like wood, brick, and metal by demolishing existing structures on the map with their pickaxe. The player can then use these materials to construct fortifications like walls, floors, and staircases in all game modes. It is possible to alter these fortification elements to include doors or windows. The utilized materials have various levels of durability and can be updated to more substantial varieties by adding more of the same kind of material.
